Pengaruh Ekstrak Lidah Buaya (Aloe vera) Terhadap Pertumbuhan Enterococcus faecalis Pada Berbagai Konsentrasi

Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) is a bacteria which is unable to form spore, facultative anaerobic, and included in the gram-positive cocci class. Aloe vera is a plant which has potential of antibacterial, antidiabetes, and tumor therapy with chemical compound such tannin, amino acid, anthraquinone, enzyme, hormone, mineral, salicylic acid, sterol, and vitamin. The aim of this study was determin effect of Aloe vera extract in inhibition of E. faecalis growth. Aloe vera extract in concentration of 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% were made by maceration using etanol 96% as solvent. Effects of Aloe vera extract test was confirmed by disc diffusion method on MHA (Mueller Hinton Agar) media based on CLSI (Clinical Laboratory Standard Institute) classification. One way ANOVA test showed p-value of <0.05 which proved that there was effect to the growth of E. faecalis in test group and Least Significant Difference (LSD) test showed that there was significant difference between material test groups of 6.25%, 75%, 100% also tetracycline positive control with each material test group. Conclusion of this study is Aloe vera extract showed resistant result based on CLSI (Clinical Laboratory Standard Institute) classification and not yet could substitute potential of tetracycline as root canal irrigation material.
